Preservation and Conservation
Serving the University and the Community by:
- Conserving books, manuscripts, maps, prints, photos, parchments, architectural drawings, atlases, etc. for four University of Michigan libraries: Bentley Historical Library, the Clements Library, the Law Library and the Special Collections Library.
- Teaching conservation to students of the University of Michigan Art School and the School of Information, volunteers and visitors from institutions and universities around the world.
- Promoting knowledge and appreciation of conservation by giving tours of the conservation lab to visitors and by giving lectures and slide presentations (both at the BHL and on the road).
- Preserving the information contained in manuscript collections by microfilming them and making the microfilm available on interlibrary loan as well as at the library.
- Increasing access to manuscript collections by exploring digital options, starting with the
World War I Polar Bear collections.
