Lima Township, Michigan Birth Records
The first township meeting in Lima Township was held in April 1834. The township is located in the northwest records held at the Bentley Historical Library cover the period from 1906 to 1950.
The type and density of information contained in each record may vary. In most cases, the birth record includes the following information for each child:
- Name
- date of birth
- Sex
- Birth order
- Legitimacy
- Birth status (born alive or stillborn)
- Treatment given at birth
- Birth Defects
These records also contain information about the child's parents, such as:
- Father's name
- Mother's name
- Birthplace
- age (when child was born)
- residence
- race
- occupation
- number of surviving children
In addition, there is a certification by the attending physician or coroner, and the date of the registration of the death.
The actual birth records are not online, but the Bentley Historical Library staff has prepared a table containing basic information about each person in the Lima Township, Michigan birth records. The table is an alphabetical listing arranged by last name of the child. There were several children who were not named when their birth was recorded. In those cases, the child is listed under [Blank] at the beginning of the alphabet. The [Blank] records are arranged alphabetically by the first name of the father.
Researchers should be aware that there might be multiple spellings of the same name, within the individual record and throughout multiple records. Please use your imagination when searching. The original records are arranged chronologically, by the date of the registration of the birth, and not the birth date of the child. When birth records are out of order there is a symbol after the birth date corresponding to notes provided at the bottom of list.
If you would like to obtain the information for an individual from the listing, please contact us at bentley.ref@umich.edu. In addition to your name and mailing address, please include the name and birth date of the individual of interest.
