Greenman, Emerson Frank, 1895-1973

Emerson "Doc" Frank Greenman (1895-1973) was a prominent Michigan archaeologist who served as curator of the Great Lakes Division of the Museum of Anthropology at the University of Michigan from 1945 to 1965. Greenman was an active field archaeologist, conducting excavations at many sites around the Great Lakes, including in the Manitoulin district of Ontario, Canada. Greenman also did much to foster cooperation between professional and amateur archaeologists in Michigan, and was particularly active in the growth of the Michigan Archaeological Society.

Greenman's papers include correspondence, administrative materials related to the Camp Killarney field school, site files for Ontario archaeological sites, and a small number of photographs, topical files, and personal mementos.
