Suggested Research Topics - Annotated Bibliography of "This I Remember ... "
From the 1950s through the 1970s Michigan football programs carried an irregular series of articles titled "This I Remember ..." written by former players, coaches, and fans. These reminiscences contain a great deal of information about Michigan football but are difficult to use because there are no indexes or other means of access to them. In this project the student would scan all the programs for the relevant years to locate the "This I Remember..." articles and then write a brief annotation of the subject of the article. The annotation would include the title of the article, author, program in which it appears, biographical note on the author if possible, and a one paragraph summary of the article.
The football programs would be the principal source used in this project but the media guides, scrapbooks and various publications about UM football may provide supplementary information.
If this is well done it would be a valuable aid to researchers and the Sports Information Office staff.
In an effort to encourage creative thinking about possible research topics for students unfamiliar with archives and their inevitable complexities, archivists and student employees of the Bentley Historical Library have authored "suggested research topics ." The purpose of these is not to define a topic but rather to stimulate thinking about a topic where the holdings of the Bentley Library are particularly strong.
