Archived Official Degree Program Requirements

Degree program requirements establish an understanding between students, academic units, and the Registrar's Office in terms of what academic course work is required to obtain a degree from the University of Michigan. It is essential that these documents continue to be captured and archived in a systematic way.

To ensure adequate accountability and use by the university community and beyond, degree requirements and course descriptions must be retained on an ongoing basis within accessible and stable systems. Whereas these vital sources used to reside permanently within published bulletins and catalogs, many academic programs are creating and managing their bulletins online. As the archives of the University of Michigan, the Bentley Historical Library is working with the Office of the Provost to ensure an awareness of obligations and issues associated with the long-term preservation of degree requirements and course descriptions. These issues include meeting accreditation requirements, as well as maintaining a historical record for future research. Guidelines and recommendations for creating and transferring archival versions of degree program requirements are available on this website.
