Research Fellowships

The Bentley Historical Library offers fellowships to support research in particular areas of study. The scope and eligibility for each fellowship is different, so please read below for more information, including how to apply.

Gunnar Birkerts Fellowship in Architectural History

Scope and Eligibility

Fellowships are open to students and scholars working on studies of architectural history in the twentieth century, anchored in the collections of the Bentley Historical Library.

Selection

Applications for fellowships will be reviewed by a selection committee consisting of the Bentley Historical Library director and staff archivists familiar with the collections.

Fellowships and Applications

Fellowships are awarded twice yearly. Awards are for $1,500. Applications require a completed application form, brief project summary (at least two to three paragraphs in length describing the uniqueness of the research topic, why Bentley materials are central to the work, and any resulting advancement in a specific field), a curriculum vitae, and citations to collections to be consulted at the Bentley Historical Library. In addition, two letters of recommendation are required. Application deadlines for each year fall on March 15 and October 15. Mark C. Stevens Fellowship and Bordin/Gillette Fellowship

Scope and Eligibility

Fellowships are open to scholars working on doctoral dissertations or conducting postdoctoral research in any area requiring significant use of the holdings of the Bentley Historical Library. Scholars resident in Ann Arbor are eligible to apply provided that their work is considerably underway and based primarily on the holdings of the Bentley Historical Library.
