Felch was a resident of Monroe and Ann Arbor, Mich. He was Michigan state supreme court justice, 1842-1845, Democratic governor, 1846-1847, and United States senator, 1847-1853. The collection includes a letter (Sept. 15, 1862) from H. J. Alvord, secretary of the Michigan Soldiers Relief Association, relating to the application of Miss Allmendinger for a position as a nurse.
