Chandler Davis, who passed on September 24, 2022, was one of the three faculty members at U-M who were dismissed for refusing to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1954.
Today, the Davis, Markert, Nickerson Lecture on Intellectual and Academic Freedom, named for the three men remembers this shameful moment in university history. Join us for a panel discussion of Davis’ life and legacy with Alan Wald, the H. Chandler Davis Collegiate Professor Emeritus at the University of Michigan; Steve Batterson, Professor emeritus of mathematics at Emory University; and Peggie Hollingsworth, Assistant Research Professor Emerita in the Medical School.
