Visitors to the Bentley Historical Library may notice a new addition to the reading room: a new scanner for public use.
The new scanner was fully funded by generous donors this past March during Giving Blueday, a one-day, campus-wide celebration of giving at the University of Michigan.
The scanner technology was a critical addition to the reading room since the Bentley hosts hundreds of students and researchers each year. These visitors come from all over the world to access the Library’s one-of-a-kind historical materials including photos, letters, scrapbooks, and maps—all of which tell the stories of the state and University of Michigan.
But after their visit, many visitors wish they had more time to look through additional materials or reflect more closely on what they found.
Now, the new scanner offers visitors a faster, easier way to take materials home with them. With the click of a mouse, patrons can scan in documents and get a high-resolution digital copy for free.
“Our donors answered the call on Giving Blueday and funded the scanner in record time,” says Natalie Giannos, Assistant Director of Development for the Bentley Historical Library. “We raised more than $13,000, springboarded by a generous matching gift. The scanner makes it so much easier for patrons to access incredible pieces of Michigan history.”
Beyond the scanner, the Library continues to fundraise for initiatives that support accessibility, community, and students. To learn more, please visit our Give page.
