This conference, held in 2022 upon the completion of the Detroit Observatory’s renovations, discusses the role of the observatory in the history of science and astronomy.

In this first session, Gary Krenz, Director of the Detroit Observatory, and Henry Cowles, Associate Professor of History at U-M, discuss The Observatory’s place in the broader story of 19th-century science and scholarship.
