Pleasant Walks and Drives About Ann Arbor

Drive "I" or Packard Street Drive

Start at the junction of State and Packard streets, go east on Packard street or the electric car road about two miles to the stone school house, turn to the right of the stone school house and go about two miles to the first cross road, turn to the left going north through Carpenter's corners and across the electric railroa, then on north to the middle Ypsilanti road, turn to the left on this road and, coming by the County House, enter Ann Arbor on Washenaw avenue. This drive is about ten miles, and takes one past some of the finest farms in this section, and by the fine glacier dumps about two miles south of the stone school house, now used as sand and gravel pits.

Drive "J" or Delhi Drive

Go west on Huron street to the Forks of the Road, take the right hand road known as the Dexter road, go about two miles to the second road turning to the right which on top of a hill and passes by an orchard, go about a mile and a half on this road to Miller avenue, which you reach after passing up quite a steep hill, turn to the left on Miller avenue and go about a mile to the first road turning squarely to the right, go about a mile and a half on this road to Delhi village, pass through the village and over the river, and while crossing the river bridge observe the rustic beauty of the old dam with the numerous small islands and channels between it and the bridge. After crossing the bridge, take the first road turning to the right just beyond the old mill, and pass along down stream by the river until you come to the first bridge crossing the river, turn right across the bridge and as you pass along here observe the stone dam above and the fine old mill race that goes from the dam to the Osborne Flour Mills. This road passes under a portion of the old flour mill, then a little further on across the Michigan Central Railroad and a short distance beyond the railroad you come to Honey Creek, and an old blacksmith shop, turn squarely to the right here and go about half or three-quarters of a mile over a sandy road passing over rising ground and through a small piece of woods, you will reach Miller avenue or Delhi road. This is the second road that turns to the left, after you leave the blacksmith shop. Keep on this road and it will bring you into Ann Arbor on Miller avenue. This drive is about twelve miles.
