Digital Format Recommendations
Images and records in digital form introduce new challenges. Creators of digital content can follow best practices to ensure longer-term access and preservation. One best practice is to create and maintain records with descriptive and organizational practices in mind. A second is to utilize specific preferred file formats that are based on industry standards and are non-proprietary and well-documented. The following guidelines have been compiled to aid creators of digital content across campus and among alumni.
These best practices are the result of work by the University of Michigan DeepBlue Preservation Committee, University Archives staff, and media experts within the James and Anne Duderstadt Center at the University of Michigan.
