The Heisman Trophy, awarded to the "outstanding football player in the United States" since 1936 may be the best known individual award given to college football player, but a number of other  awards have been established to recognize the nation's best player or the top individuals at specific positions.  Ohio State holds a significant edge over Michigan in recipients of  the major national awards.
