Michigan Daily Alumni Photographers Project

Use, Copyright and Credit

The images included in the Michigan Daily Alumni Photographers sites are hosted by, and the search and display functions provided by, the Image Services department of the Digital Library Production Services (DLPS) division of the University Library. Images Services stores the scanned images as high resolution JPEG2000 files, which permits zooming-in and multiple resolution views derived from a single master file. Where permitted, users may download a high resolution jpeg file.

Copyright
Images in the Michigan Daily Alumni Photographers collection are covered by one of several copyright provisions depending on the wishes of the contributing photographer.

Several individuals (including Jay Cassidy and Sara Stillman) have transferred the copyright interest in their images to the University of Michigan. In this case the images are being made available under a Creative Commons Attribution License. For these images users may view and download high resolution jpeg files.

Other photographers have elected to retain their copyright in their images. In this case access to high resolution views of the images will be restricted in one of two ways

Permission to use an image with the latter copyright status would have to be obtained from the photographer by contacting the Reference Division of the Bentley Historical Library (bentley.ref@umich.edu).

Credit and Attribution
Any use of images from the Michigan Daily Alumni Photographers must be accompanied by proper credit to the photographer and the project, and where appropriate, the Creative Commons license under which the image has been made available.

Full informaton about an image, including photogpraher and date, can be found by clicking the Description tab on the imge view page.

See the University Library's Using Creative Commons Licensed Material for more details about citation.
