Join the The Michigan Daily Alumni Photographers Project
An Invitation to former Michigan Daily Photographers
Join the legacy of Michigan student photographers including Jay Cassidy, Steve Kagan, Andy Sacks, and Sara Stillman! Help enrich the visual history of the University of Michigan by adding a sample of your work as a Michigan Daily photographer to the university archives at the Bentley Historical Library. For each photographer, a portfolio of up to 50 images will be created within The Michigan Daily Photographers Project.
Portfolios will be preserved, cataloged, and presented online by the Bentley Historical Library in cooperation with the University of Michigan Digital Library Production Service, Image Services unit. Credit will go to you and copyright is yours to retain if you choose.
There are several options for submitting images to the project:
- make a selection of images from your negatives and digitize them yourself
- make a selection of images and have the Bentley create the digital files (returning negatives to you)
- donate your entire collection to the archives and the Bentley will make selection and create the digital files
The archives holds a variety of media including negatives, prints, slides, and digital image files. There are thousands of university related images already well preserved and accessible, dating back to the Civil War era and ranging from general views of campus to events, daily life, and people. A small portion of the image collection is currently available online through the Bentley's Image Bank. With The Michigan Daily Alumni Photographers project we hope to enhance the visual documentation of campus and recognize the history of photography at the Daily.
If you would like to participate in the Michigan Daily Alumni Photographers Project we ask that you provide a bit of biographical information (which will be included in your portfolio) and a brief description of the images you wish to submit, including a title/caption, date of the image. any narrative information you think relevant its description or context, and some minimal technical metadata about the scanned images.
If you would like to contribute to the project, contact Aprille McKay, Lead Archivist for University Collections Development at aprille@umich.edu
