June Brutus Mage was a student at the University of Michigan Department of Law in 1890-1891. In November 1890, he witnessed a campus confrontation between students and the national guard in which a student was killed. Mage’s letter to William Joseph Fischer, an insurance agent in Detroit, Omaha and St. Louis, in which Mage describes the incident.
