Poet, activist, teacher, publisher, and independent bookseller in Ann Arbor, Mich. His father, Richard Pohrt, was a noted collector of Native American art and artifacts. Established Bear Claw Press with his brother, Tom Pohrt, and founded and ran the Shaman Drum Bookshop In Ann Arbor from 1981-2009.

Collection includes records relating to business operations, articles about the bookselling industry, press coverage, photographs, printed broadsides, catalogs, store newsletters and posters documenting events at the Shaman Drum. Also records of Pohrt’s other business affiliations and involvement in local cultural initiatives such as the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair and the Ann Arbor Book Festival; lecture notes, essays and teaching materials from Pohrt’s time as an adjunct professor at the University of Michigan-Flint; and personal correspondence, poetry, essays, blog entries, art, photographs, travel memorabilia (including trips taken with the poet Gary Snyder), and topical files on Buddhism, world history, and Native American cultures.
