SNAAP (Support Network of Affirmative Action Programs) began in 1978 as a group called Minority H.E.L.P.E.R.S. (Minority Hospital Employees as Liaison for Professional Employment, Recruitment, and Support) at the University of Michigan Health System’s University Hospital, under the direction of Laurita Thomas, a personnel manager at the Hospital. SNAAP’s goals were to increase minority recruitment and retention at the University Hospital and to provide a support network for minority Hospital employees.

The SNAAP (University of Michigan) records include a charter and bylaws, agendas, promotional materials, memoranda, statistics, mailing lists, and documentation of SNAAP’s career workshops and networking events.
