Schepers was a Wagoner in Supply Company, 337th Infantry Regiment, 85th Division. In late September 1918, he was among the approximately 500 men of the 85th who were sent to Archangel, Russia to supplement the 4,750 troops of the 85th Division who had arrived earlier that month. Returned to the U.S. in 1919 aboard Von Steuben.
