The Huron: Michigan’s Little River

Author and University of Michigan Professor of Civil Engineering William Hoad began his descriptive essay about the Huron River by saying it was a “well-behaved, pretty, and useful little stream.” This overview, based on various Bentley collections, highlights various aspects of a river that has for centuries attracted friends, environmentalists, athletes, entrepreneurial engineers, and more as it wanders first southwest and then southeast, ultimately reaching Lake Erie.
