University of Michigan Football All-American
Elmer Madar
End, 1946
Substitute quarterback in 1941, Madar shifted to end in 1942. His career was interrupted by Air Corps duty overseas until he returned in 1946 to become "iron man" of the Wolverines squad as he played more minutes than any other player despite Fritz Crisler's newly introduced platoon system. His play attracted attention of both newsmen and coaches. Later played pro football, served as assistant at Harvard and Holy Cross before entering Detroit public school systems.
