Came off the bench in 1928 to astound Michigan fans with the finest tackle play of the year to win a berth on Grantland Rice's All-American team. First Wolverine to be chosen at tackle since Pontius in 1913. Practically unanimous choice on every major selection. Regarded as one of the best linemen ever to represent Michigan.
