Adolph "Germany" Schulz

Center

German Schulz

First of the roving centers, "Germany" Schulz develped the technique of dropping back on defense to plug holes anywhere in the line. Although chosen All American in 1907, his play against Pennsylvania in 1908, earned him the h ighest praise of Coach Fielding Yost, who said, "He gave the greatest one-man exhibition of courage I ever saw on a football field." Schulz limited the great Quaker team to a single touchdown before injuries put him out at the half and Michigan was overwhelmed. A National Hall of Fame selection, Schulz was named to the all-time All-American team in 1951.
