Switched from guard to center, he became a consensus All-Big Ten selection and honorable mention All-American as a junior. He repeated as all-conference center in his senior year, was elected co-captain, and was named All-American, the eighth Michigan center to receive that honor. He went on to become a member of the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League.
