Photostat copies of four letters (July 31, 1863?-Jan. 27, 1865) written to his aunt while he was serving in Company D, 18th Michigan Infantry. He comments on Colonel Doolittle and General Rosecrans as officers, the band and its activities, the emancipation speech of Governor Johnson of Ohio, and life in Cahaba Prison. Ford was reported missing in action at Athens, Ala., Sept. 24, 1864, and was killed in the explosion of the steamer Sultana, Apr. 27, 1865. He was from Hillsdale, Mich.
