French served as lieutenant in the 10th Michigan Cavalry. He was quartermaster officer for the regiment. The collection includes supply documents (1864-1865) for the 10th Michigan Cavalry as well as other regiments including the 8th and 9th Tennessee Cavalry. The documents include records of forage, clothing, camp and garrison equipage, stores, a few muster-out rolls, and other miscellaneous documents.
