Five letters (1862-63) written while he was serving in Company A, 20th Michigan Infantry, as sergeant and second lieutenant. He describes the Blue Ridge Mountains region while on a march, speaks of the monotony of camp life, describes winter quarters near Fredericksburg, mentions a box from home, comments on home news and the men in his company, tells of a boat trip from Fredericksburg to Newport News, of their new camp, and of purchasing oysters. Greene, of Lansing, Mich., was killed in action at Horse Shoe Bend, Ky., May 10, 1863.
