Harter, Mathias, 1826-1907.
Six letters (Nov. 22, 1862-July 31, 1864) written to his wife and children while he was serving in the 9th Iowa Infantry. The letters are chiefly of camp and home affairs. In July, 1864, he was superintending the government printing office in Rome, Ga., and editing a newspaper. In civilian life, he was a public school teacher.
