Michigan in the Civil War

Heald, Warren E., 1839-

Three letters (Mar., Sept., Oct. 1862) were written to members of his family while he was in hospitals in Philadelphia and Fairfax. During the summer he had been on all the marches with his regiment; but then he had become ill again and unable to go on. He said hospital fare was not very good. Finally, in November, 1862, he was discharged on a surgeon's certificate of disability. Heald, from Ionia County, Mich., was in Company B, 16th Michigan Infantry.
