Michigan in the Civil War
Hill, Charles L.
Seven letters written while he was serving in Company K, 7th Michigan Infantry (1861-1862). There is an account of the battle of Edwards Ferry, near Washington, D.C. In November, 1861, he assures his folks that he has plenty to eat, good clothes, and soap and candles; but in July, 1862, he begs them to petition the Governor to get him out of the army because of disabilities. Hill, from Burr Oak, Mich., died at Smoketown Hospital October 14, 1862 of wounds received in action at Antietam, Md., September 17, 1862.
