Michigan in the Civil War
Love, John C., 1844-1875.
Twenty-six letters (1861-1864, originals, photocopies, and transcripts) written to his parents while he was serving in Company C, 9th Michigan Infantry, and after December, 1863, with the 11th Michigan Infantry in the Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia campaigns. He writes of camp life, food, sickness, the weather, foraging parties, marches and engagements, especially Murfreesboro and Atlanta. He comments on conscription, and describes Vallandigham's crossing to rebel lines, May 28, 1863. Love, from Columbia, Mich., was wounded in action, July 1862.
