The papers of this Cambridge Township, Lenawee County, Mich., and Geneseo, Ill., family include letters and a diary from two soldiers. A diary (July 1864-Dec. 1865, typescript only) and three letters (1861 and 1864, photocopies and typescripts), of John W. Monaghan, soldier in the 7th Michigan Cavalry, Company I, describe campaigns in Virginia and Indian campaigns in Colorado. Five letters (1862) of Daniel Monaghan describe the battle of New Madrid. Daniel Monaghan, of Tecumseh, Mich., served in the 3rd Michigan Cavalry, Company K.
