Michigan in the Civil War
Parrish, Lester.
The papers of this Flint, Mich., resident consist of six letters (1862-1864) written by his brother, C. Parrish. He describes the waterfront at Cairo, Ill., shooting at guerrillas across the river, the ironclads and Commodore Porter, and guarding prisoners. He gives an account of a march through Louisiana and Mississippi in heat, dust, rain and mud; of skirmishes with the enemy and the destruction of railroads, bridges and buildings; and the siege of Vicksburg. From there the company marched into Missouri. Parrish was in Company G, 35th Iowa Volunteers.
