Michigan in the Civil War
Phillips, Horace, 1846-1917.
Part of a diary (Aug. 31, 1863-Jan. 13, 1864) in which he gives an account of his activities as clerk for an army sutler. He traveled in Kentucky and eastern Tennessee and gives good descriptions of the country. He saw some action with Michigan regiments in building fortifications and in battle during the siege of Knoxville. He was from Ypsilanti, Mich., and later became a teacher.
