Potter, Henry Albert, 1840-
Typescripts of four diaries, and sixty letters (1862-1865) written to members of his family while he was serving in the 4th Michigan Cavalry as sergeant and captain. There are vivid descriptions of raids, skirmishes, and battles while chasing Bragg's, Morgan's and Wheeler's armies. Special accounts are given of the battles of Chickamauga, Big Shanty, Selma and Atlanta, and of the capture of Jefferson Davis. Potter also expresses his political views of the Emancipation Proclamation. Potter was from Ovid, Mich.
