Ransom served in Company B, 3rd Michigan Infantry, and was discharged Aug. 8, 1862. The collection contains three autobiographical writings (dated 1908, 1915, and one undated). They contain descriptions of life in Genesee County, Michigan, time spent in Detroit, Michigan and Ohio before the war, military campaigns in which he participated, a hospital stay, and brief comments on his activities after the war.
