The papers of this Kent County, Mich., attorney include one letter (Nov. 2, 1864) written by Albert S. Smith to his mother from Atlanta, Ga. The regiment was expecting orders to move but didn't know where. Smith was an artificer in Company B, Michigan Engineers and Mechanics.
