Michigan in the Civil War

Upjohn family.

The papers of this pioneer family of upstate New York and western Michigan, and founders of Upjohn pharmaceutical company of Kalamazoo, Mich., collected by Robert U. Redpath and Richard U. Light, include photocopies of a few Civil War items of William Upjohn, who served as surgeon in the 7th Michigan Cavalry. There are fragments of diaries (1863), one letter (undated) from Upjohn to the officer in charge of his regiment relating to his status with the regiment, and one letter (May 3, 1864) to Upjohn from John W. Southworth of Company F, 5th Michigan Cavalry.
