Michigan in the Civil War
Wright, Zenos Russell
Volume two of his diary (Sept. 1864-Sept. 1865) kept while he was in Company G, Merrill Horse (1861-1865). The short entries tell of his daily activities while on the march, of river transports, picket duty, scouting, foraging, chasing guerrillas, building winter quarters, etc. He comments on the towns passed through, the weather and muddy roads and camp grounds, short rations for men and horses, Lee's surrender and the death of Lincoln. The program for the regiment's celebration of July 4, 1865 is given in detail.
