Cleveland Family.

The papers of the family of Charles M. Cleveland, grocer and general merchant in Adrian, Mich., include four diaries (1861-1862, 1864-1865) in which Cleveland records national news as received through the telegraph, newspapers, and letters. There are graphic accounts of recruiting in Adrian, the training of companies at Camp Williams, and of the departure of troops for the war.He writes of food and wool prices, of the excitement over the Trent affair, of the efforts to get volunteers, of the celebration at Lee's surrender and mourning at the death of Lincoln.
