McBride, James G., b. 1844

Resident of Monroe, Mich., who served with the 9th Michigan Cavalry during the Civil War, rising to the rank of major. He had earlier served with the 15th Michigan Infantry. Diary, March to Sept. 27, 1864, detailing McBride's actions in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia, including clashes with Morgan's Cavalry. Also miscellaneous clippings, a 1927 letter about the collection, and photographs. Photographs include a tintype portrait (and cabinet card copy) of McBride with "Mr. Darraugh," probably John Darrah of the 15th Michigan Infanry, "taken in Tennessee at the time of the Shiloh campaign." Also tintype of girl and dog.
