Three letters written to his wife while he was serving in Company D, 14th Michigan Infantry, September, 1864-January, 1865, when he died of disease in McDougall Hospital, Fort Schuyler, N. Y. He tells of riding on top of the cars in very cold weather for two days and one night, and of preparations to join Sherman's army. He also comments on home affairs. Bump lived in Bloomer, Mich.
