The papers of this professor of music at the University of Michigan include one letter (Dec. 24, 1863) written from Coen, Miss., by Isaac H. Eastburn, in which he shows the difficulty of getting mail when the regiment is on the move, speaks of his health, the weather, death of comrades, camp quarters and duties, the condition of the people and rebel armies, and plans for Christmas dinner. Eastburn was in Company E, 76th Illinois Infantry.
