Michigan in the Civil War
Cole, Miner T., 1839-
One letter (Dec. 29, 1861) written from Camp Lebanon to his parents. He tells of a box from home and about their quarters and the accidental burning of their tent. Cole enlisted in the 14th Ohio Infantry, as corporal, in 1861, and became first lieutenant. He reenlisted in Dec. 1863 and had charge of a foraging party in Sherman's army. He became a lieutenant in the 22nd U.S. Colored Troops in 1864. The collection includes orders and miscellaneous documents relating to that regiment. After the war Cole became a farmer and a Michigan state representative from Lenawee County in 1887.
