Michigan in the Civil War
Conely, Thomas Jefferson, 1836-1899.
Seventy-four letters (Oct. 10, 1861-Sept. 18, 1864) written to Lottie Langdon. Conely was first lieutenant and captain in Company K, 9th Michigan Infantry. He was taken prisoner at Murfreesboro July 13, 1862 and exchanged Dec.3, 1862. After this he was mostly on provost duty and saw little active service though he tells of the battles of Stone's River, Chickamauga, Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge, the sieges of Kennesaw Mountain and of Atlanta. He resigned in October, 1864.
The collection also includes two letters (1864) written by David P. Ingraham of Brooklyn, Mich. to Lottie Langdon. He tells about celebrating the Fourth of July and Christmas, and describes the Tennessee mountains. Ingraham was a lieutenant and captain in Company A, 9th Michigan Cavalry.
