Bowers, Alfred, 1836-1932.
Thirty letters (Oct. 1862-June 1865) written to his wife while he was serving in Company C, 143rd New York Infantry. The letters are concerned chiefly with his personal and home affairs and the state of his health. He occasionally speaks of camps and camp duties, his duties as a pharmacist in the hospital at Murfreesboro, and the march through South Carolina to Charleston and on to Washington. There is almost no war news. Bowers was a resident of Sullivan County, N. Y., who later came to Grand Traverse County, Michigan (1883) where he ran a mill and later became a mail carrier.
