The papers of this Brooklyn, Mich., resident include letters from three soldiers:
George Blashfield. Three letters (1864-1865) written from Fort Gaines and Fort Morgan, Ala. He writes of garrison duty, voting for Lincoln, capturing lumber on a scouting expedition, the colored troops, and his intentions to stay until the end of the war. Blashfield was in Company E, 6th Michigan Infantry, 1861-1865, as corporal, sergeant, and hospital steward. He was from Calhoun County, Mich.
C. T. Chaffee. One letter (April 13, 1862) written from Edinburg, Va., to Henry M. Enos. Chaffee was in the March 23, 1862, battle of Winchester and tells a bit about it. Chaffee's regiment has not been identified.
Alfred W. Wright. Two letters written in a barracks in Detroit (Aug. 15, 1862, and undated). He enlisted in Company A, 17th Michigan Infantry, in Aug. 1862, and was discharged for disability in April 1863. Wright was from Adrian, Mich.
