The collection of this Ann Arbor, Mich., businessman includes four letters of Alexander Ewing of Dexter, Mich., (1864) written to Rice Beal, concerning recruiting in the South to fill Michigan quotas and the amount of the bounties to be paid. Ewing was a surgeon in the 13th Michigan Infantry. He was taken prisoner at Chickamauga.
