Hemingway, Luther, 1837-
One letter (photocopy of typescript only), written to his wife on December 18, 1864 in which he asks about stock on the farm; and tells her of a march to Weldon Railroad, Va. where 25,000 infantrymen and 4,500 cavalrymen destroyed twenty miles of the railroad. There was rain, snow, and sleet, and guerrillas and quite a force of cavalry harried them from time to time. Hemingway, from Benton Harbor, Mich., was in Company B, 24th Michigan Infantry from Sept. 1, 1864 to June 30, 1865.
