Stone family.

The papers of this Macomb County and Kalamazoo, Mich., family include papers of Addison Ray Stone, 1854 graduate of the University of Michigan Dept. of Medicine and Surgery and later assistant surgeon in the 5th Michigan Cavalry (1862-1863). Letters to his wife describe daily life and the activities of his regiment. The collection also includes letters of three other soldiers:

Charles Merryweather, of Holly, Mich., hospital steward in the 5th Michigan Cavalry. One letter (Nov. 15, 1863) from Stevensburg, Va.

M. Merryweather, who writes as though he was a member of Stone's regiment, but has not been further identified. One letter (Oct. 13, 1863) from Detroit.

Germain Wholerich?, possibly a member of Stone's regiment, but not identified. One letter (Dec. 6, 1863) from Stevensburg, Va.A finding aid for this collection is available in the library.
